Team India - Worldcup 2007. Can We Win?

The opening ceremony for the next ICC Cricket World Cup is within two months on 11 March 2007 but millions in India has been waiting for this occassion forever.

The Indians lost the Test and the Series to South Africa. An excellent opportunity to win an Overseas Series was just gifted away.

The main cause of concern was that the Indian batsmen went into a shell and took to a defensive approach, which many felt was a crucial reason to lose the match to South Africa. Probably Team India should have learnt from Smith and Pollock who played an enterprising innings.

It is imperative that the skipper has to adopt a positive approach and take some chances which Dravid failed to do. The Indians lost the match and ultimately the series because of some poor approach. The fact that they had initially won the First Test match should have obviously driven them to win the series. But that never happened. The only solace to Team India has been the excellent seam bowling by Sreesanth and positive approach of Dinesh Karthik. It is high time, Sehwag is given a break and players like Gambhir and Uthappa be given a chance. Sehwag has to be in for the World Cup as he has still got the capacity to turn around matches.

Sachin and Sehwag are expected to win the matches for India but with current performance of both, it puts a big question in the open… Can they really do it?
